Kitah Zayin - Seventh Grade

American Jewish Experience

Making music

Students in Kitah Zayin will research, study, and discuss the roles that Jews have played in American society. The students will begin their investigation in the old world shtetls and look at what forced/inspired many Jews to leave their homelands and venture to America. In the interest of time, the class will study the waves of immigrants that came to America after the Civil War.

The students will have the opportunity to study their families and learn valuable lessons from their own ancestors. They will learn how American Jews reacted to, were affected by, and played a part in the women’s rights movement, World War II, racism, the Civil Rights Movement, the labor movement, sweat shops, ghettos, entertainment, publishing, the birth of the state of Israel, and American politics.
